Changed my perspective on electric razors September 5, 2010 M. Robertson (London, UK) Firstly, it's worth noting I am not an Amazon Vine reviewer at the time of writing, so I haven't just recieved one of these for free.
In terms of the product, the first thing that springs to mind is the overall build quality. I've knocked mine around while travelling a few times and it just bounces back. So although this would obviously come second to the quality of the shave, it's worth mentioning from the off.
So - the shave - I have been a Mach 3 user for a good few years now, having had an electric razor (of the c. £50 quality) a while back. With a razor, I always cut myself. I think my stubble grows in a funny direction from bad shaving, whatever the reason may be, this STOPS all cuts, instantly. It hasn't cut me once and is a lot quicker to use.
What is especially good is using it every day, so the face becomes used to the cutting style; this is easily done, as it's very simple to use (in the sense that you don't need to be 100% awake and concentrating on what you are doing to use it without cutting your head off).
It also ticks all the boys toys boxes - when you are done, it will tell you it needs to be cleaned. Turn it upside down and dunk it into the charging cradle (you can charge it directly though if travelling) and it dips the unit, while spinning, into a pool of special solution to clean and dry it. Very whizzy, slightly showing off perhaps, but it does actually do a good job (and has different programs depending on how dirty the blades are).
It's worth pointing out that I do still use Gilette shaving foam - without it, it's very harsh and dry, but maybe that's just me. As a product, it's good, solid, whizzy and easy to like. I reserve the right to not give it 5 stars as it is expensive. Recommended.
happy out August 24, 2010 johnnysonic i recieved this razor only lately and hadnt used an electric for about ten years now. i had used all phillishave razors in the past but this time due to the good old internet i was tempted to try maybe a braun foil razor for a change from what i used before. after trying my room mates phillishave on one recent cycling trip ( fixed head ) after forgetting my mach3 and then 2 weeks later used my brothers on another cycling trip which was the arcitec rq1075 i was happy enough to purchase phillishave again and got the Hq1095. i have to say it does the job very well especially after the 1st three shaves. I wont be going back to wet shaves any time soon. electric razors have come a long way and this one ticks all the right boxes for me.
Awful August 19, 2010 jlp Bought this shaver for my Dad to replace his Philips HQ6868 shaver. Looks good, but that is as far as it goes. Obviously all of the budget was spent on the aesthetics and 'self cleaning' and not the functionality. It's nice and shiny but does not shave as well as his old Philips model, and after trying to use it for more than a couple of months, he has finally discarded it and bought replacement blades for his old model, which is far more effective.
Razor review Phillips RQ1095 August 18, 2010 clean shave Razor does not shave as close as wet razor.
Cleaner unit very big and awkard to store
Trimming blade too small
Not a good buy for the price
Replacement shaver July 26, 2010 P. G. J. Munro This replaced a Philishave which has give a reasonable cut for five years. The new razor is stylish but is not a significant improvement on the old shaver. The new design requires a separate charging stand which is quite bulky and is not so convenient when packing for holidays. The Arcitec is easy to clean and maintain. The floating heads are particularly good when shaving the neck area. The battery holds 65 minutes of charge whilst the old shaver had 50% extra charge which was useful if away from home for 7 days.
